We organise a variety of social activites throughout the year, including those described below. Specific details of all activities can be found in the newsletter and a callendar of events is available on our Events page.
These are held at our Mappin Street Centre on the third Thursday of every month from February to November plus 2 Christmas Socials in December. The events, which usually run from 7:30pm to 9:30pm include entertainment, a supper and a raffle. Transport is usually available on our fleet of minibuses. These evenings are very popular, usually being attended by around 100 people. There is no charge but in order to assist with catering requirements or to request transport it is necessary to book your place by contacting the Mappin Street Centre.
These are usually held 4 times a year on a Saturday evening and are attended by members of all ages. The only requirement is that you are "young at heart" and want to have a good night out. A licensed bar is provided and there is a nominal admission charge which includes an excellent buffet. Admission is open to sight impaired people plus their sighted guests.
We usually operate 3 full day trips and many shorter local trips out every year These are either free or heavily subsidised for members and their partners or carers. The full days are usually to the coast and include a slap up lunch. Details are always issued well in advance using the newsletter. Local shorter trips are organised with shorter notice, so enquire in the Activities Centre for details of any planned for the proceeding 2 - 3 weeks.
As well as the regular events, we occasionally have one-offs such as the recent concert by members of the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus who, in conjonction with the Master Cutler, took part in this fantastic fundraising event at the Mappin Street Centre. A great time was had by all, and over £800 was raised on the night.
