Driving Volunteers

Photo of someone closing the door after a client has got into a car Transport is one of the biggest problems faced by visually impaired people. We require volunteer drivers to drive our minibuses, or their own car.

Drivers are required to pick up and drop off people to SRSB's Mappin Street Centre and back home. This role enables people to engage in social activities within the two centres, helps to combat loneliness and social isolation and helps to maintain independence and confidence.

A clean driving licence is required. For the minibus role, you should be aged between 25 to 70 and with D1 category on your licence.

Skills required:

We ask that you are a caring person who enjoys meeting and talking to people.

Some visually impaired people have guide dogs, so you should be willing to accomodate them in your car.

Time Involved:

2 to 4 hours, once a week. But we are flexible with the time to suit you.

Where the role is based:

In the Sheffield or Rotherham community.

You can read what our volunteers get out of different roles on our Volunteer Testimonials page.

PLEASE NOTE: We are not currently accepting applications due to the COVID-19 situation, as our centres are closed. When restrictions are lifted we would be very pleased to hear from you.

In the meantime, if you would like us to contact you when our centres reopen, you can email us here: volunteers@srsb.org.uk and we will keep your name on record.

Thank you for your interest in supporting our charity.
