COVID-19 Update

SRSB and RSS logos

Following the directive from the government to further reduce social interaction we have regrettably had to suspend the vast majority of our services, including closing our SRSB Mappin Street Centre in Sheffield and RSS Ship Hill Centre in Rotherham, in the interest of limiting the spread of the coronavirus. The majority of the staff have been designated as “furloughed workers” which is the government’s term for staff which have been laid off but 80% of their salary now being funded by the government.

This decision was not taken lightly but as a necessity to safeguard our staff, and ultimately our charity, so that they hopefully will be able to return to work when the coronavirus crisis is over and help us rebuild our services to support our clients – blind and partially sighted people in Sheffield and Rotherham as well as hearing impaired people in Rotherham.

The remaining very limited services are now:
  1. Telephone advice and support for our clients, including welfare benefits advice
  2. Shopping for essential food etc and collection/delivery of medication – this is primarily for our vulnerable and isolated clients without good support from family, friends and neighbours.
  3. We will be contacting by telephone all the clients that regularly attended our Activities Centre in Sheffield and our Ship Hill Centre in Rotherham.
  4. Cairn Home, our residential care home at Crosspool is, of course, still functioning, but no visitors are allowed due to coronavirus.

The only way of contacting us now is by telephone on 0114 272 2757 (SRSB) or 01709 722 420 (RSS) or email to info@srsb.org.uk and enquiries@rotherss.org.uk Please only contact us if the matter is urgent and please be patient as we only have a skeleton staff responding to enquiries and delivering the above services.

Please follow the government guidance for preventing the spread of coronavirus.

We hope you stay safe and that you remain virus free.

Thank you for your understanding at this very difficult challenging time.
