SYPTE Update Rotherham

Photo of seats on a bus This information is from SYPTE who have asked us to share these latest travel updates:

Rotherham Central Engineering Works – 13, 14, 20 and 21 February

Engineering works are taking place over two weekends this month, affecting the railway around Rotherham Central station on 13, 14, 20 and 21 February

Re-signalling works being carried out by Network Rail will affect Tram Train journeys between Parkgate, Rotherham Central and Meadowhall Interchange and Northern trains serving Rotherham Central.

Services will be affected as follows:

Saturday 13 and 20 February

Tram Train

Services will operate as normal until the last departure from Cathedral to Parkgate at 15:00, and from Parkgate to Cathedral at 15:31. Alternative arrangements have been made for Tram Train passengers to use Stagecoach bus services between Parkgate and Rotherham town centre, then a Northern rail service between Rotherham Central and Meadowhall. Customers needing to travel further by tram will need to transfer to a Yellow Route service at Meadowhall.

Northern Trains

Services are unaffected.

Sunday 14 and 21 February

Tram Train

Services will not operate. Customers should use the replacement bus services provided by Northern between Parkgate and Meadowhall, to connect to tram services.

Tram tickets will also be accepted on Stagecoach buses between Parkgate and Rotherham town centre. Alternative buses will serve the following stops:

At Parkgate:

  • from Rotherham – Rotherham Road/Stadium Way (37030863)
  • towards Rotherham – Rotherham Road/Stadium Way (37030864)

Northern Trains

Northern services will not call at Rotherham Central. Northern will be providing a replacement bus service that will call at Parkgate at Rotherham Road/Stadium Way stops (see above), Rotherham Central station and Meadowhall. Customers can also travel on Stagecoach bus services between Parkgate and Rotherham Central to connect to the rail replacement bus service if required. Customers needing to travel further by tram will need to transfer to a Yellow Route service at Meadowhall.

Ticket acceptance

Ticket acceptance has been agreed for customers that already have a Supertram or rail ticket. Customers using the Northern replacement bus service will be allowed to board without a ticket for travel between Parkgate and Meadowhall.

Customers making essential journeys on Tram Train or train in the Rotherham area are advised to check before they travel and to be prepared for longer journey times owing to the services being operated by bus.
