Volunteer Wins Award

Photo of Graham holding his award

We were delighted that one of our volunteers was recognised by the UK-wide Charity Today Awards 2019 last week.

93 year old Sheffield man, and D-Day Veteran Graham Bell MBE, was shortlisted along with four others for the Special Recognition Award and was invited to attend the event in Peterborough. He was joined on the evening by members of his family and staff from SRSB

There was a massive cheer from his supporters when he was announced as the winner! SRSB was one of just four charities from across the entire UK to have made the category’s final shortlist.

Jane from SRSB, who was there on the night commented “We are over the moon that Graham won! It is very well deserved recognition. Our charity has been around for 160 years in 2020, and we would not have been able to provide the level of services that we do without the support of volunteers like Graham. He has been volunteering for us for over 15 of those 160 years, so his contribution has been significant! He has volunteered in the office, as a guide in the visually impaired walking group and supported many fundraising events. He has also done several runs himself!

“He is an inspiration to us all at SRSB! Graham is relentless in his charity work and I am sure that many other charities who he volunteers for in Sheffield will be as happy as we are that Graham has been acknowledged with this award. Thank you Graham and thank you to Charity Today.”

The Charity Today Awards gives charities the chance to tell their success stories to both national and regional audiences, regardless of their size, through the UK’s most prestigious and diligent charity awards programme. They celebrate and reward true excellence within the sector, awarding the work done by charities and individuals who continue to raise the bar by setting new standards each year.

Charity Today & UK Charity Week Founder Lee Rayment, said: "I had been looking forward to meeting Graham and having the chance to commend him on his charity work. He's such an inspiration!"
