Michael. A Tribute from SRSB

Photo of Michael at SRSB The team at SRSB would like to pay tribute to our long standing volunteer Michael, who very sadly passed away earlier this year. We were all devastated to hear this news as Michael was a familiar face to all of our teams at the centre.

He volunteered in the office for over 10 years and was a quiet, gentle, unassuming man.

The role that Michael supported us with was helping to prepare equipment for fundraising activities. This role is time consuming and is a behind-the-scenes job that may not be noticed, but is an essential contribution to our activities running smoothly. It requires patience and dedication - both qualities that Michael possessed. He would also turn his hand to other fundraising activities, supporting our store collections and events as well as helping with postal mailshots. He has been part of our team for so many years and his presence will be very sadly missed. Everyone describes him as a gentleman, and that description fits him perfectly; a gentle man.

Michael recently gave us a quote about his volunteering and he said “I first came to SRSB over 10 years ago to work in the office and gain confidence with IT. I now help with preparing collection tins and also at store collections along with my wife Winnie. I enjoy the opportunity to interact with people at the centre and out in the community. I have made many friends from volunteering too.”

We can’t begin to imagine how sad this will have been for Michael’s wife Winnie and all of their family, and we send our deepest condolences for their loss, but hope that they can take some comfort from knowing how well thought of he was and how many of the friends he made will always remember him.
