Works being carried out over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend by Supertram and Network Rail affecting Tram, Tram Train and train services through Sheffield.

Supertram Essential Rail Replacement Works - Park Square Delta Junction - 8pm Saturday 3 April to 5am Tuesday 6 April:

South Yorkshire Supertram Limited (SYSL) will be carrying out essential rail replacement works to the Park Square Delta Junction over part of the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend. The nature and location of the works means that a full suspension of all tram and tram train services will be in place from 8pm Saturday 3 April until 5am on Tuesday 6 April

The Delta junction is a key part of the Supertram network and is used by all services on all routes – every Supertram service passes through this junction. Supertram has identified the need to remove and replace worn rail at this junction. These works are part of Supertram’s ongoing maintenance programme and are critical to extend the lifespan of our city’s tram network, maintaining the reliable, comfortable and safe level of service Supertram customers have come to expect.

Alternative bus services

Details of the last tram services is attached and bus services are available near the majority of tram stops when the trams are suspended.  Where there is no alternative bus service nearby tram replacement bus services will be provided.

There will be two tram replacement bus services, operated by Powells Bus Company Ltd. which will run as follows:

  • Service BL1: Fitzalan Square/Ponds Forge – Manor Top/Elm Tree (hourly service)
  • Service BL2: Gleadless Townend – Halfway (hourly – Easter Sunday and half hourly Easter Monday)

Please find attached a summary of the alternative services for your information.

Timetables are available at www.travelsouthyorkshire.com

For the duration of the works agreement has been reached with First and Stagecoach bus operators to accept valid Supertram tickets on their buses in areas where Supertram services normally operate.

The following ticket range will be available on the BL1 and BL2 over the Easter Bank Holiday:

  • £1.90 single fare on BL1 or BL2
  • £3.20 return fare on BL1 or BL2

Citybus, Citywide and normally available concessionary/child tickets are also available on services BL1 and BL2.

Park & Ride sites

Park & Ride sites in Sheffield will be free for the duration of the works over the Easter weekend.

How is this being communicated to customers?

Supertram is advising customers of the disruption to services via their website at https://www.stagecoachbus.com/news/yorkshire/2021/march-2021/disruption-to-tram-services-due-to-essential-engineering-works-3rd-to-5th-april and on their social media channels. They will also post Customer Notices at tram stops.

Up to date bus timetables and journey planning tools are available at www.travelsouthyorkshire.com

How can you help?

It would be appreciated if you could please advise customers wishing to travel over the Easter weekend to check before they travel and to be prepared for longer journey times.

Network Rail Engineering works over Easter Bank Holiday Weekend

Network Rail will be carrying out some signalling and track improvement work over the Easter Bank Holiday. This will affect trains that pass through Sheffield. The changes will see passengers benefit from smoother and more reliable journeys on the railway.

The works are being carried out over the Easter Bank Holiday to minimise disruption for passengers.

On Saturday 3, Sunday 4 and Monday 5 April the following services will be replaced by buses:

  • Northern services between Sheffield and Meadowhall, Sheffield and York and Sheffield and Lincoln/Cleethorpes
  • CrossCountry services between Sheffield and Wakefield Westgate.

Additionally, the following services will not call at all stations:

  • Trains between Sheffield and Hull will run between Rotherham Central and Hull
  • Northern trains between Sheffield and Leeds via either Barnsley or Moorthorpe will run between Meadowhall and Leeds
  • TransPennine Express services will not run between Sheffield and Doncaster
  • East Midlands Railway services will not run further North than Sheffield.

Passengers planning to travel on these routes are advised to check before they travel via National Rail Enquiries, with their train operator or by following #EasterRailWorks on Twitter.
