Medical Student Placements

Medical students come from the University of Sheffield for a six week placement; usually in their third year of studies. Placements are arranged by the University and overseen by them.

For students to gain a complete overview of what we do and all our services they begin by shadowing all staff in their various roles; both in and out of the Centre, this enables students to work alongside staff to support our clients.

This is invaluable experience as it forms a sound basis for developing skills for when they are qualified and working with people who are blind or partially sighted as well as informing students of the services that are available in Sheffield for blind and partially sighted people.

Students say they find the whole experience rewarding – it gives them an understanding of the barriers that blind and partially sighted have.  Something they can continually take on-board wherever they work when they are qualified.

For further information please contact us either by email or Tel: 0114 272 2757.
