Gail is a client at SRSB and is an active member of the Sheffield Visually Impaired Walking Group, the Thai Chi group and the swimming group. She also enjoys cycling tandem with her husband Joe.
Gail is a valuable member of our team, giving her time as a Tele-Contact Volunteer at SRSB's Mappin Street Centre. She has modelled in our fashion shows and is always admired for her sense of style.
She started to lose her sight when she was about 40 and struggled with accepting this for some time, but admits that the day she decided to go for training with a white cane her life changed and she couldn't manage without it now. She says "I love my white cane and if there was a fire, it would be one of the first things I would grab - along with my hair straighteners!"
She says that the services in Sheffield for visually impaired people are excellent and that she couldn't survive without the services of Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind and the council's Sensory Impairment Team.
